Conversations Between Friends: International Women's Day 2025

haidecounsellor

Just in time for International Women's Day 2025, I had the privilege of hosting two of my dear friends on my podcast. Laura and Darice have been part of my life for more than two decades.

Follow this link to the podcast episode:

I met Laura when we were both part of a women's group. My first recollections of her are from during the time we spent in a writing group together. She is thoughtful, strong, creative, energetic, visionary, and is always striving to grow. In our writing group, she challenged me to grow and become better.

Darice was in my orbit long before she was in my life as a friend. I recall knowing of her through a mutual church community. It was quickly evident to me that she was someone I found inspirational. She brought a kind strength and a determined focus to life. A number of years later we were in the same women's group with Laura and connected on a more personal level.

As I think about International Women's Day, I think about the many wonderful, secure, powerful, passionate women I am blessed to know and have in my life. Today is a day to celebrate women who have impacted our life and our world in so many different ways. From the mothers who model love and commitment and who help us grow to be who we are, to the women who make positive contributions to our world and who fight for all to be seen and treated as equals, there are many ways to be a strong woman.

However, this day isn't just about being a strong woman or honouring the women we value and respect. It is also a call to continue to work for equality. If you are a man reading this and wonder how you can participate, start where you are. Who are the women in your life? Learn about the mental load that women carry and acknowledge it, work to share it, and find ways to be an equal partner. If you have no idea what that means, search it up and read about it.
